The Red Carpet

A young lady called me up in September 2011 asking if I would create an image for her engagement album.  “You’re the only one I want to shoot this!” said Jesyka Harris.  “Hmmm…I’m flattered, but I’m not sure my style lends itself to engagement photos.” Every Wednesday night this fall, I've turned the channel to watch “Sons of Anarchy.”  This was a constant in my life, kind of like a born-again Christian hits up the weekly Bible study.  While watching the episodes, I started to get ideas.  Thoughts got me thinking that maybe I could parlay this engagement request into a new promotional piece, via trade work (one image for her, one for me).  So I picked up the camera for the first time in months.  (I was a terribly burned out after finishing Graduate school)

The idea was to blend the upcoming awards (SAG, Golden Globes, Oscars, etc.) with motorcycle gangs.  I wanted to create the scene where a celebrity arrives at some Hollywood red carpet event.  The viewer is catching her right at that moment when she is decompressing from a trauma - right before she puts on her happy-public-game-face.

When I look at the image, questions bubble up:

  • Who is this person?
  • What happened to her before the event?
  • What is her personal life versus her professional life?

I’ll leave all that for you to answer.

A very special thank you to all those that helped:
